![]() ![]() One possible saving grace is this scanner has a (50pin mini ) SCSI port connector which I have tried and it did somewhat work intermittently, I need to check that out again. I have tried Linux Mint 17.3, 20.3 ,21.1, Ubuntu 22.04.1 and Fedora 37 but sane does not find the scanner. His response was "I have many customers using this scanner on Linux". I said it works in windows just not in Linux. His reply was "Try a different (and possibly shorter) USB cable and or a different USB port". Mint 20.3 see's the scanner but Vuescan doesn't. Sane does not recognize it as there is no nf in the /etc/sane.d/ folder or no fs-4000us text show's up in any of the. Replacing the scanner would be the more expensive solution, but this would replace a 12 years old scanner by a new one (and, in that case, checking that it is compatible with Linux before to buy it would be great.). Vuescan can be tested freely, and is a bit more expensive. Note that, if the computer allows it, the preferred "pay" solution would be to use Windows in a virtual machine (a Windows 10 license can be found for some 15$). I would test it, since it is a free (as beer) solution. Twain dlls (twain.dll and twain_32.dll) found in Wine should probably replaced by true windows ones. I was not thinking to SANE but to install the scanner Windows driver in Wine. ![]() "Wine's TWAIN forwards calls to SANE, so if there's no SANE driver for your scanner, it probably won't work in Wine." So, if sane-backends are already installed in your system, wait until this PPA offers 1.2.1 version, install it and update sane-backends. At the moment, it is not up-to-date, wait a moment until 1.2.1 backends version is available in the PPAs. So, if sane-backends are not installed, begin by compiling 1.2.1 version. If you use this version, you must compile it and remove old sane-backends version with Synaptic (this may cause problems, with the need to remove dependencies). Latest version of backends (=drivers) is 1.2.1, dated. It is possible that your scanner will work with Linux Mint 21.x / Ubuntu 22.04 LTS sane-backends version (libsane, libsane-common, libsane1 at version 1.1.1-5) If your supplier does not provide Linux drivers for your scanner, you may find them in sane-project. (in summary, if your scanner or your printer is not driverless, you should uninstall driverless support from Linux Mint 21.x, then install your drivers, because when driverless is installed drivers do not work). ![]()
